Attractive commercial district on the East Harbour, Aalborg
Aalborg is undergoing significant development from a port and industrial city to an academic and knowledge city. The East Harbour is evolving into a dynamic district on the shore of the Limfjord with housing, businesses, education and a rich cultural life. The new features and buildings are replacing the former warehouses and silos, rapidly revitalising the inner harbour basin.
By virtue of a highly flexible overall layout, the new commercial building facilitates the establishment of up to 25 individual commercial rental units, shops and exhibition spaces. All the units have a north-facing aspect with views of both the harbour basin and the Limfjord.
Among the various units in the building there are interconnected floors, providing visual and functional contact with bright, inspirational interiors. Most of the building has brick façades, and parts have metal-clad panels. The building complex includes a communal foyer, a meeting centre and canteen facilities for the tenants, and a large number of parking spaces incorporated into the building’s basement.
The architecture features spaciousness, texture, light and shadow to achieve an attractive working environment with an appropriate aesthetic impact. This is evident, for instance, in the large glass façades facing the fjord towards the north. The building also incorporates various new, energy-saving solutions.
