Hotel Lakolk is an excellent example of FRIIS & MOLTKEs brutalistic period
Hotel Lakolk is placed on Rømø Island, in the dunes with direct access to the beach. The original Hotel Lakolk was built in 1898. In 1965, FRIIS & MOLTKE was given the task of drawing and constructing the new modern hotel.
Inspired by the rugged climate on the coast to the North Sea, the architecture is robust. The outer walls, roof structure, columns and cornices are in untreated concrete with visible lathings. The walls are soaring up the rolling terrain. The roofs are covered with turf.
Hotel Lakolk is an excellent example of the brutalism that FRIIS & MOLTKE were exponents for in their earlier years.
