A harmonious, powerful building with a pronounced simplicity and abstraction in the façades, which will make the stadium strong and iconic
Randers Stadium is beautifully located in a hilly, scenic area in the western part of the city. The football pitched is flanked to the north by a scenic ridge that embraces the stadium and highlights the pitch as an arena. Conversely, to the south the falling terrain opens up with an impressive view over the city and Gudenådalen. This project completes the city’s stadium with grandstands to the north, northwest and northeast, and a commercial building. The new extensions are combined with the existing buildings, and the commercial building will contain training, administration and VIP facilities etc.
Arrival at the stadium is an essential part of the overall experience. This is where people meet up before a match or concert. It is here that the atmosphere is established. Connected to the new north grandstand there is a large new arrival plaza facing Vester Boulevard/Parkboulevarden with space for stalls and room for people to linger.
The main intention is for the completed Randers Stadium to come across as a harmonious, powerful building with a pronounced simplicity and abstraction in the façades, giving the stadium a strong iconic character, and making the building even more highly valued than it already is.
The building meets the Danish Football Association’s “Requirements for Danish football stadiums hosting Premier League, 1st Division, 2nd Division and Elite Division matches.” (2013 version)
