Urban school with space for play and learning as an incentive for exercise
Unrealised competition project.
The goal of the project is to create a conscious emphasis on diversity in the volume and scale of the learning environments, to promote as much activity as possible. All the learning environments in the building are targeted at positive, meaningful learning experiences, inspiring a desire to learn and totally underpinning the organisation of the school and its educational methodology.
The new building will be a foil to the city, surrounding it with a contemporary architectural expression, which matches the various scales of the city and the district. The idiom and the materials used give the building depth and an interplay of colours. The building has a clear, harmonious impact with an evident correlation between function and expression. It was important to create a building, which underlines the fact that it is a place for learning, and that the primary users are children and young people. Therefore we chose a material for the façade, which allows for a differentiated colour scheme in relation to the surroundings and the underlying function. Consequently, the façade helps to emphasise each individual cluster as a ‘little school within the big school.’
