NIDO | danmark - a unique research and educational centre affiliated with the new hospital in Gødstrup
NIDO | danmark will take up about 5,000 m², housing research laboratories, simulation rooms, research support services and a conference facility for ideas and interdisciplinary environments. In physical terms, NIDO | danmark will be connected to the new hospital in Gødstrup. The idea of the project is to establish a unique research and educational centre affiliated with the hospital. In physical and organisational terms, the building must support and develop research, educational and learning environments for use, not only by somatic and psychiatric specialists in the hospital, but also by external research and educational institutions and other collaborators.
In tackling the project, we have chosen to create a building with a cohesive organic structure, in which the architecture supports the goal for a joint platform for an attractive research, educational and learning environment – an international-level powerhouse for medical research and clinical health education. The project includes a wide range of facilities: for example, clinical laboratory facilities, a biobank, a Clinical Trial Unit, a main hall, offices for researchers etc.
One key priority for the new building is to support NIDO’s identity as a research centre, while creating a positive framework that encourages synergy and interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers, students, pupils, clinical staff and patients. The physical setting supports the professional and social relationships, and its structure indicates activity across them. The architecture provides the very best conditions for creative collaboration and knowledge sharing and exudes caring and openness in a professional research and treatment environment. The building incorporates a huge degree of flexibility, since over time needs will alter and necessitate changes in the interior design, while the architecture lays the ground for new educational and learning opportunities.
