Sculptural theatre auditorium for Svalegangen Theatre in Aarhus

FRIIS & MOLTKE has designed a new theatre auditorium, a foyer and backstage facilities for Svalegangen Theatre in Aarhus. Upon arrival the audience encounter a new, soft, colourful lounge area between the café and the Old Auditorium.
The passage up through the narrow building features large glass sections in the façade, making visible the interaction between the old buildings and the new foyer area. The new foyer emphasises the encounter between old and new in spaces that welcome you to the new area, at the same time highlighting the history of the old building.

On top of the building, the new auditorium rises up in a seven-metre-high arch, gently framing both audience and actors. The auditorium features powerfully dramatic and effective resources by virtue of the unique lighting options in the arched ceiling.
